Michael Dudey, 17, took the gold medal and national championship for Under-19 Men’s Foil at the United States Fencing Association’s Junior Olympics in Dallas, on February 20, 2011.  Michael’s semifinal opponent was the event’s first seed, Jeremy Goldstein of Westport, Connecticut.  The silver medalist was second-seeded Brian Kaneshige of Maplewood, New Jersey.  Michael is a junior at Bellaire High School.
Two days earlier and also at the Junior Olympics, Thomas Dudey, 14, earned an A11 rating and finished seventh place at the national championship for Under-17 Men’s Foil.  Thomas is “underage” for this category of competition as he is still eligible for 14-under events.  Thomas is a freshman at Bellaire High School.  

Michael and Thomas, who are brothers, have trained at Salle Mauro Fencing Academy for the past nine years.  They are coached by Mauro Hamza, who is the director of the USFA’s foil program.

Salle Mauro scored three medals and one national championship at this year’s Junior Olympics.  The tournament was held February 18-21, 2011 in Dallas, Texas.

On Sunday, Michael Dudey took a gold medal and won the national championship in Junior Men’s Foil.  The first place finish also meant a coach’s medal for Mauro Hamza…

Two days earlier, Thomas Dudey earned an A11 rating and received a seventh place medal in Cadet  Men’s Foil.

Other Salle Mauro fencers who qualified for and participated in the tournament were Sarah Followill, Gabe Acuna, Nicola Sirito, and Denes Marton.

Jan. 28-30 saw Madeline and Aidan Antekeier, Jack and Leo Holmes, and Nicola Sirito travel to Louisville, KY, to fence in the Kentucky Division Super Youth Circuit.  Leo and Madi brought home silver in the Y10 Men’s Foil and Y14 Women’s Epee respectively, and Jack and Nicola brought home bronze in the Y12 and Y14 Men’s Foil respectively.  Madi also had a top-8 finish in Y14 Women’s Foil.

Aidan Antekeier is currently 2nd in the nation in Y12 Men’s Epee.  Madeline Antekeier is currently 5th in the nation in Y14 Women’s Epee and has points in Y14 Women’s Foil and Cadet Women’s Epee.  Leo Holmes is Currently 5th in Y10 Men’s Foil and has points in Y12.  Jack Holmes is currently 22nd in Y12 Men’s Foil and Nicola Sirito is 32nd  in Y14 Men’s Foil.

These fencers all work hard in practice to gain these results and deserve some congratulations at the club.
